Meet The New Subaru Brat Wilderness Pickup - You Can Only Look And Not Touch

Would you buy a compact 2024 Subaru Brat Wilderness if Subaru of America offered it? Or would a midsize four-door Subaru Baja Wilderness be a better choice? You make the pick.

Subaru of America still needs one new all-wheel-drive pickup to complete its all-wheel-drive lineup. Would you choose a new compact 2024 Brat Wilderness pickup or a midsize Baja Wilderness pickup?

The smaller Brat Wilderness or, the larger Baja Wilderness would be a big success for Subaru of America. Or better yet, why not build both trims?

Subaru of New England recently put the image of the Baja Wilderness on its Instagram page, saying, "You asked, we delivered." Of course, it was just an April fool's joke earlier this year, but the truth is often spoken in jest.

If only it were true. Subaru of New England said, "Introducing the all-new 2024 Baja Wilderness. Equipped with a 260 horsepower turbocharged Subaru Boxer engine, 9.2" of ground clearance, standard all-wheel drive, and up to 75 cubic feet of cargo space, the Subaru Baja Wilderness has everything you need for off-road adventures. So where will the 2024 Baja Wilderness take you?"

We found two Baja Wilderness images on Instagram showing the compact Brat Wilderness that would be a fun ride to play in the dirt.

The Subaru Brat pickup would be the hot new model to impact U.S. customers this year significantly. The image below from Battle Wagon Gang represents a desirable 2024 Subaru Brat Wilderness trim level. It's what outdoor enthusiasts want and what Subaru of America needs.

Of course, the all-new 2024 Subaru Baja Wilderness or Brat Wilderness pickup would feature the brand's core values of safety, fun-to-drive, all-wheel-drive, fuel-efficient, a low center of gravity, and dual-function X-Mode for all-terrain capability. In addition, the new Baja pickup would be extra rugged and ready to go further off the grid.
Both pickups would take customers further off-road to play in the dirt this summer. But, it would also raise Subaru of America to new heights in sales and give the Camden, N.J. automaker the missing vehicle in its all-wheel-drive lineup.

We can imagine an all-new 2024 Brat Wilderness with a 2.5-liter Boxer engine that powers the 2024 Crosstrek and 2024 Impreza RS. It produces 182 horsepower and 178 ft lbs of torque. The 2024 Subaru Baja Wilderness would get the 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer engine producing 260 horsepower.

The Brat and Baja pickups would lead the segment with extra ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and underbody protection for off-roaders. Subaru wouldn't be able to build them fast enough.

Subaru's new dual-function X-Mode system would be a perfect fit and a big hit with customers with active lifestyles who want to go further off-road. In addition, because the Subaru Global Platform provides model flexibility between the Subaru of Indiana Automotive's assembly lines and the Subaru plant in Japan, the pickup truck could be built in the U.S. plant.

It could be manufactured on the same platform as the all-new 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness trim level in Lafayette, Indiana. It would include the same suspension upgrades, all-terrain tires, more prominent wheel arch cladding, a metal front skid plate, unique hex-design LED fog lights, and an anti-glare hood decal in a matte-black finish. It would be everything you want in an off-road-ready compact and midsize pickup.

It's time for Subaru of America to launch an all-new 2024 Subaru Brat compact pickup and a Baja Wilderness midsize pickup for its U.S. customers and dive into the pickup market.

Would you buy a new compact 2024 Subaru Brat Wilderness if Subaru of America offered it? Or would a midsize four-door Subaru Baja Wilderness be your choice? You make the pick. Leave your comments below.

Would definetly buy a new Brat of the 2 door variety with "King Cab" storage space ............do not need nor want a 4 door pick up truck............and don't make it rediculously high off the ground with huge wheels/tires....try to keep price $30K or less for a decent trim model..........

I would be interested in a quad cab wilderness pick up. We have a 2024 Crosstrek wilderness. I have a 2023 maverick hybrid. My wifeswilderness is really great but my fuel economy’s much better. Would the turbo have better fuel economy?

I’m awaiting the arrival of a Subaru truck with no bells and whistles. A base model with manual transmission, non turbo engine and not more equipped than a base model crosstrek.

Is about time to have something new and exiting in the car manufacturing market , if I’m not dead by then definitely I will buy either one.

Between my mom, myself, and my sister we have owned 7 Subarus from a Justy to a couple of Foresters, and a couple Outbacks as a painter and an outdoorsy person it would depend on the storage space the last Baja didn't have much and from what I remember no way to cover the cargo area or attach a tarp I've seen several versions of a potential Baja/ Brat a couple look really nice really mean and tough looking which I lean towards and the rest look like city slicker type vehicles which I would pass up for an Outback Wilderness

There is ZERO doubt that Subaru is missing a golden opportunity, and not just now, but for quite some time now. The difficult decision: Xtra cab Brat, or 4 door crew cab with worthless bed? I’d go for the xtra cab Brat with decent size bed. In fact, they could probably modify an Outback or Ascent to achieve a great product!

What they need is to bring back the 4wd hi and Lo range shifter. I had an old brat and that thing in low range was a beast. Up and over Elephant hill in canyonlands national park. Ranger was impressed. However, you could knock a few inches off the front overhang and give a better approach angle.
Just saying

I have a Forester which I plan to keep, possibly forever. My husband dreams of a Subaru pickup, so, YES, a midsize pickup would be perfect. Do it,please!

I have always wanted another Brat but settled for an Impreza - love my sport wagon, on my second one now. Just about ready for a new one but now am willing to wait for the new Brat need something that can pull a Toy Hauler…

We're presently shopping for a small pu & the Ford Maverick is about the only thing that's avbl that we would choose. Chevy's Montana is horrendously underpowered, the Subaru Brad is too small, but the Subaru Baja Wilderness is just what we're looking for. We're ready to buy today! We owned a Crosstrek and loved it.

Bart Higgins (not verified)    January 5, 2024 - 5:21AM

Definitely would buy a new Brat model, I currently own a Crosstrek which I take on many back road trips including Hunting trips, I’ve hauled out a total of 4 Blacktail Bucks in the back of my Crosstrek .The ability of using a p/u bed would be awesome!! Ha ha , no more blood/ hair/smell inside the car!!

I own a 2004 Subaru Baja Turbo and my son has a 2005 Subaru Baja N/A. We both are looking forward to Subaru to come out with another Baja without the rusting problems the old ones have.

I owned 2006 Baja and loved it. I've been hoping Subaru would bring it back. Subaru need a truck. I'll be looking for it. It just may be my downsize from my Silverado. It's exciting.

I would buy the compact Brat Wilderness in a minute. I am just waiting on Subaru to bring back a compact pickup. We have had several Baja's and love them. That would be our last vehicle because we are in our late 70's. We are hoping that Subaru brings back the small pickup while we are still able to drive.

There are already too many 4 Dr. Sport units with a tiny bed. Why compete with them? I think a standard 2 door cab, fuel efficient (30 mpg) possibly a stretch cab for secure water tight storage, with a 6-7' bed, subaru all wheel drive, manual windows and eliminate all costly unnecessary add ons. Able to tow 3500 lbs is what is missing in the market. Look at the popularity of the Maverick, a lower cost dependable vehicle. Build it and the sportsmen will come out of the woodwork. People that need a vehicle capable of transporting up to 5 people already have such units. A well thought out pickup without the bells and whistles (lane departure, adaptive cruise control, sun roofs, electric windows/locks, heated seats and steering wheel on cameras, etc, etc, etc.) that has Subaru all wheel drive and dependability, significantly cheaper and different than any other vehicles on the road is a NO BRAINER!!

Give sportsmen, tradesmen and others a TRUCK!! Single or stretch cab, 6-7' bed, Subaru all wheel drive, reliability, fuel efficiency (30 mpg), 3500 lb towing and eliminate all fluff and unnecessary electronic add ons. Look at the popularity of the Maverick. The world does not need another 4-5 passenger vehicle with a tiny rear bed. Feel free to contact me as part of the development team. I am a Subaru owner, and will be the first to buy one!!

I would most definitely trade in my car to get the New 2024 Subaru Brat edition. I've been wanting a small size off roading truck for a while now. I just haven't found the right one yet. If Subaru makes the Brat Wilderness, I'm all in!!
