As Red Bull Global Rallycross returns to its hometown of Los Angeles, Travis Pastrana will join SRT USA team, but he won’t be driving the 2015 Subaru WRX STI GRC car. The 2015 Subaru WRX STI GRC car was on display at the SRT USA dealer display at K1 Speed Torrance where Travis Pastrana and Bucky Lasek showed up for a charity event, but fans won’t see it on the track today.
The 2015 Subaru WRX STI GRC car was on display outside K1 Speed Torrance where Pastrana and Lasek got in the seat of go-karts for a good cause Thursday night ahead of the Red Bull Global Rallycross double header in LA. SRT USA brought the new 2015 Subaru WRX STI and new-generation STI GRC car to the charity event for fans to see. But Pastrana, Lasek and Isachsen will be driving the 2014 WRX STI cars for the three-day affair in LA.
Pastrana and Lasek drive with the fans
Thursday night, K1 Speed Torrance hosted an event that allowed fans to bid for spots on their favorite drivers teams as they competed in a relay style endurance race. All proceeds from the event went to benefit Road 2 Recovery, a foundation that provides assistance for action sports professionals who have sustained career ending injuries. Pastrana, always a competitor, gave it his all in the go-kart. Lasek was his usual self and was pumped as he hit the track with some fans.
Subaru teases the 2015 STI GRC
But outside the K1 Speed Torrance facility, Subaru teased fans again with the 2015 Subaru WRX STI Global Rallycross car that they first unveiled at the New York International Auto Show in April. Fans were expecting to see the new car this season compete in the series. But Lasek and Isachsen have been driving the 2014 WRX STI GRC cars all season.
Pastrana will not be scored for points
SRT USA will add Travis Pastrana as a driver at the LA event which is the only double header event of the season. This weekend will comprise the seventh and eighth rounds of the series 2014 championship. The drivers will look to maximize their points in what may prove to be the most crucial week of the season. But Pastrana, as a guest entry committed to fewer than five races in the 2014 Red Bull GRC season, will not be scored for points in this weekend’s events.
Back to LA
LA has been a special place for Global Rallycross as the series has competed in the area in each of the past three years as part of X Games Los Angeles. The series office is also based in Pacific Palisades. The Port of Los Angeles will host a Red Bull GRC race for the first time, though it also hosted the series’ media kickoff event this April. Port of Los Angeles features a nine-turn, .586-mile course, an evolution of key elements that have comprised Red Bull GRC tracks this season. The joker lane, the longest of the year, will carry drivers through the last three turns of the course as they bypass the jump.
It will an exciting action-packed race again as Red Bull Global Rallycross returns to LA. You can catch the live action today, September 20 and tomorrow September 21 at 5pm ET on NBC. At the SRT USA dealer display at K1 Speed Torrance, they brought the 2015 Subaru WRX STI Global RallyCross car to tease the fans again. But sadly, it be on the track in LA.
