Used Subaru Prices Are Falling Fast, What It Means For Customers Now

If you are buying a used Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, or another model, it's the best time in years. It's an even better time to buy a used Solterra EV. Check out used Subaru prices and see how much they've fallen.

Should you buy a used Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, or another model now? According to a new report from iSeeCars, prices on used Subaru models are dropping. A used Subaru Solterra is also a better value now. In my two decades of covering Subaru, I've rarely seen prices drop like this.

iSeeCars data reveals that used car prices have slowly dropped over the past 12 months. The average used car is now $31,153, a 3.6 percent decline, or $1,161, since last year. The average used Subaru price is now $26,963.

The report says used vehicle prices have been consistently 2 to 7 percent lower than last year, suggesting inflation isn't impacting used car pricing.

How did iSeeCars analyze used car prices?

iSeeCars analyzed over 1.8 million 1—to 5-year-old used cars sold in February 2023 and 2024. Comparing the average prices of cars by segment, brand, and model, the analysis shows a general softening of used car prices overall but a dramatic drop in used electric vehicle prices.

Where does Subaru rank among all car brands?

  • Subaru is number nineteen overall.
  • Average Used Subaru Price - $26,963
  • Year-over-Year $ Price Difference -$1,139
  • Year-over-Year % Price Difference -4.1%

Overall Subaru Solterra EV Average

  • Average Used EV Price - $31,153
  • Year-over-Year $ Price Difference -$1,161
  • Year-over-Year % Price Difference -3.6%

"Stable used car values have combined with falling hybrid and electric vehicle values to create flat pricing across all three," said Karl Brauer, iSeeCars Executive Analyst. Used car shoppers with a $31,000 budget have access to the majority of models today, regardless of drivetrain. But they're paying approximately 50 percent more for the average used car than before the pandemic."

I think these three things are important for Subaru buyers to know:

1. Subaru has the highest inventory of new models than any time in the past four years. It's the highest I've seen in nearly a decade. I would say it's a perfect storm for buyers. Some new Subaru models are even selling under the sticker price.

2. Used car pricing is much improved if you can't afford a new Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, or other model. From what I've observed, Subaru's used vehicle inventory should also improve.

3. Used Subaru shoppers should consider a Certified Subaru vehicle. They have been checked, and you can get an extended warranty. These models have fewer miles and are guaranteed by Subaru to be in excellent condition.
