Subaru of America just released a new video of the full in-car lap record set by Le Mans driver Richie Stanaway in the Subaru WRX STI Type RA NBR Special at the 12.8-mile Nurburgring Nordschleife race track. The Prodrive-built STI, achieving a record time of 6:58.9.
Subaru says the WRX STI Type RA NBR Special was designed to show the capabilities of the Subaru sedan and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, but it was also to help promote the new limited edition 2018 WRX STI Type RA coming early next year.
The production 2018 WRX STI Type RA delivers increased performance through weight reduction (carbon fiber roof), suspension mods and engine upgrades by Subaru Tecnica International. The limited edition orders have just been opened up, and a top Subaru dealer reports their waiting list for the STI Type RA (Record Attempt) filled up in one hour.
This supercar is no stock STI. It pumps out over 600 horsepower and has a modified FA20 2.0-liter Subaru WRC-spec boxer engine under the hood. Prodrive also fitted the Isle of Man TT car with a redesigned aero-package to achieve the record run at the Ring in July. You can read more about the performance sedan here.
The time was achieved using the Nurburgring timing equipment and was officially verified by track officials. Subaru of America also released a Behind the Scenes video of the Type RA NBR Special. Watch and enjoy.
