Several Tesla Cybertruck Owners Show Spontaneous Circular Cracks Forming on the Inside of Their Truck’s Windshield – Glass Repair Specialist Says “I’ve Never Seen Anything Like This”

A Cybertruck owner shares a large circular crack that spontaneously appeared on the inside surface of his Cybertruck’s windshield. The glass repair shop has no idea, but several Cybertruck owners share getting a windshield replacement under warranty.

A Cybertruck owner from Edmonton, Kentucky, shares that his truck’s windshield has started forming spontaneous cracks.

The cracks are large and circular, spanning the entire windshield, and, more interestingly, they only form on the inside surface of the windscreen.

The confused Cybertruck owner took his truck to a local glass repair shop, and the mechanic there said he’d never seen anything like this.

The Kentucky Cybertruck owner shared his experience on the Cybertruck Owner Club forum.

Here is what he wrote…

“Very hard to photograph, but my Cybertruck has developed three radial cracks which form a complete circle around the windshield after a small crack appeared inside (no mark or damage to the outside surface), and I tried to get it filled.

The glass repair guy immediately said I'd need a new windshield but agreed to try to fill it. To do so, he needed to drill it, but as soon as he touched the glass with the drill without applying any pressure, three radial cracks appeared. The repair guy says he's never seen anything like it.

We've ordered a replacement windshield ($2,600), which is expected to take a couple of weeks to arrive - obviously my fault for green-lighting the repair.

I'm not sure what's holding it all in place—the pressure, I suppose—but we've been driving it since, though I wince every time I hit a pothole.

Does anyone else have a windshield fail like this? Anyone get a random small crack on the inside surface of the glass?”

Below his post, the Cybertruck owner shared a picture of his Cybertruck windshield showing three cracks. The cracks start at the base of the windshield and travel upwards in a circular fashion.

Looking at the picture, it appears that the cracks are more circular than radial. The cracks start at three different locations at the base and travel parallel to each other in a circular pattern.

This is different than if it was a radial crack, which will have an epicenter from which all the cracks radiate outwards.

Surprisingly, looking at the comments, other Cybertruck owners also shared that they had experienced similar spontaneous windshield failures and that the crack was circular.

A fellow Cybertruck owner, Scott from Gaffney, South Carolina, writes…

“I had the same thing happen to my windshield. Tesla replaced it and said it was bad glazing. Circular cracks on the interior side only.”

Another Cybertruck owner, Jeff from Clarkston, Michigan, says he’s had the same type of windshield failure, but in his case, Tesla replaced his windscreen for free under warranty.

Jeff writes…

“I had the same thing happen to my windshield. It was replaced by Tesla under warranty. I posted my experience back in the summer.”

In Scott’s and Jeff’s case, Tesla appears to have replaced the windshield under warranty. In Scott’s case, the EV maker even admitted there was an issue in the windshield formation process.

However, in the original poster case, the Cybertruck owner from Kentucky appears to have agreed to pay Tesla $2,600 to replace his windshield.

Looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners were critical of the fact that he did not immediately take the issue with his windshield to Tesla service.

A Cybertruck owner from North Carolina asks…

“You hired a 3rd party instead of taking it to Tesla for a warranty replacement?”

In response, the original poster writes…

“Yes - I thought it was a ding from a stone - it wasn't until I got to the repair shop that we learned it wasn't on the outside, but solely on the inside. It didn't occur to me (or to the repairer) that it might be a glazing issue or a flaw in the glass. Lesson learned.”

This seems reasonable. Most people, if they see a crack on their windshield, don’t automatically assume it is due to a defect in the panned glass formation process. Naturally, most people would think a rock or something hit the glass.

However, in this instance, the interior circular crack appears to be due to a defect in the glazing process rather than an outside impact.

Another interesting point here is that the spontaneously cracking windshield is only one of several Cybertruck glass-related complaints owners have expressed thus far.

Several Cybertruck owners with tinted windshields and glass roofs have shared that their glass spontaneously shattered after being left in the sun for too long.

One Cybertruck owner cautioned, "Warning: I left my Cybertruck parked in the sun for three weeks, and the glass roof shattered from the heat—don’t tint your Cybertruck glass.

In the original poster’s case, it’s also interesting whether he had tinted his windshield before the cracks started appearing.

Overall, tinted or not tinted, it’s not ideal to be saddled with a $2,600 repair bill for a windshield that spontaneously cracks. Having said that, please let me know what you think in the comments.

So this is what full-time AI "journalism" looks like? Quotes from all over the web, but not a single pic or independent verification.

This are just the problems that can cause deaths or even injury..

I cant imagine having to worry about sitting in rush hour traffic in a sunny 90 degrees day and having hot glass rain down upon the person/people sitting under it then happily paying for a new one and waiting for a couple weeks for it.....

Just another layer of poor quality that's piled upon one of the worst designs in history. Horrible fit and finish, deplorable build quality, non existent customer service, ridiculous depreciation all give the unfortunate owners an air of "sucker" when curiously viewed by their unencumbered brethren. I really love it when they toss in the absolute horrible deals they made, and how much their monthly (lol) payment is in addition to the out of pocket repairs they have to have in order to be able to drive it. "One born every minute"....

Likely caused by owners banging their head against the windshield, regretting life decisions that resulted in the purchase of it in the first place.

Looks like a vacuum cup problem of how windshield is placed at factor. Working in a factory using compressed air for many applications and making vacuum is what I saw and weekly adjustments or vacuum repairs happens. Here these windshields are placed with robotic equipment that can hold and place the windshield. This is a big windshield compared to other models and my Tesla Y has already had windshield replaced.

OK..the folks with the problem have pictures...so Why not Post them instead of simply a stock photo of a cybertruck?
