Tesla Runs Through the Entire Canada Cybertruck Reservation List in 6 Days; I Reserved Mine in December 2023 & I Can Already Order

Tesla is struggling to find Cybertruck buyers in Canada. A Canadian Cybertruck reservation holder, Igor, says he only reserved a Cybertruck a few months ago, and Tesla has already invited him to take delivery. The waitlist is gone in the blink of an eye.

Although Tesla has been taking Cybertruck reservations in Canada and Mexico for several years, it’s only been six days since the EV maker officially started accepting Cybertruck orders in those countries. Given this short period, Tesla has yet to deliver the first Canada-spec Cybertrucks.

However, even before the first customer intended Cybertrucks land in the country, it appears that Tesla is having difficulty finding willing Cybertruck buyers in the land of maple syrup.

Currently, in the spirit of first come, first served, Tesla is working through the Canadian reservation list, which has been accumulating since 2019, in chronological order.

First-day Cybertruck reservation holders get priority in converting their reservations to binding orders, and Tesla proceeds through the entire reservation list from there.

This is in contrast to how Tesla sells Cybertrucks in the US. Currently, in the US, anyone, even someone without a reservation, can directly open Tesla’s online configurator and order a Foundation Series Cybertruck in seconds.

Tesla transitioned to allowing direct Cybertruck orders in the US after exhausting the entire reservation list, starting with first-day reservation holders and ending with the last reservation holder.

Tesla is doing the same thing in Canada. However, where it took Tesla 8 months to go through the US reservation list, in Canada, Tesla appears to have exhausted the reservation list in less than a week.

Kevin Laracy is a Canadian with a Cybertruck reservation. Recently, he went to the Tesla Cybertruck Facebook group to share the communication he received from Tesla informing him that his “Foundation Series Cybertruck is ready for delivery in Canada.”

This wasn't unusual since Tesla has opened up Cybertruck orders in Canada and is inviting people to configure their trucks based on their reservation queue.

However, what was surprising was that looking at the comments, you can see that Tesla is not only asking the early Cybertruck reservation holders to take delivery of their trucks.

Having worked through the entire Cybertruck waitlist in the blink of an eye, Tesla is already contacting people who reserved their Cybertruck as late as a few months ago to take delivery of a Cybertruck.

Another individual who received similar communication from Tesla Canada is Igor Grushevskyi. Igor noted that even though he only reserved his Cybertruck by the end of last year, he had already gotten an email from Tesla asking him to take delivery of the vehicle.

In response to Kevin’s post, Igor writes, “Dec 3, 2023 reservation holder with RN120x number - got the same email today as well. It does look like many people have canceled their Cybertruck reservations.”

Interestingly, Igor reserved his Cybertruck after Tesla started deliveries in the US and revealed the final pricing.

Most of the 1 million people who reserved the Cybertruck did so based on the truck’s original $39,000 starting price and the overwhelming majority of these people appear to have decided to skip purchasing the truck.

This is understandable, given that the cheapest Cybertruck currently on sale costs $100,000 US or $137,000 Canadian.

Given the massive price increases, Tesla's quick run through the reservation list might not be too shocking; that is, if people who reserved the vehicle after the final price was revealed could sustain sales.

However, in the US, it only took a couple of weeks since individuals who reserved the Cybertruck after the pricing was unveiled started to get the invite for Tesla to run through the entire reservation list and open up Cybertruck orders.

Given all the hype, it’s surprising to see Cybertruck sales nose-dive so quickly. It’s difficult for me to explain why almost no one wants to buy a Cybertruck. Let me know if you have a compelling reason why so many people are canceling their Cybertruck reservations.

People are NOT wanting the cybertruck because of all the build and safety issues the vehicle has.
Its a BIG joke how bad quality the vehicle is and how bad many get "bricked" by the software and need to be towed. Its definitely not doing "Truck" things.
Also, in the US its being associated with Boomers who are Trump fans.

My RN119 reservation went live Wednesday for configuration and final order...I am choosing to wait as the $140,722.50 tax in price after government rebate is obscene vs the original price. I completely understand that inflation and global effects have boosted prices considerably since 2019, however an actual of over double the estimate seems excessive...starting with Tesla's policy of direct exchange pricing (straight USD to CAD exchange). Along with this is that the Foundation series on offer is fully loaded, which includes the $20,000USD FSD (Full Self Driving) option. I'm hoping for an adjusted price soon for a more reasonably equipped AWD version that lists for no more than $85,000 CAD.

This article is clickbait and FUD. Tesla is trying to convert the preorders into sales of the Foundation series cybertruck which is expensive and the only available version at this time. Down the road with economies of scale, Tesla will reduce the cost to make the truck and offer cheaper versions to the people with preorders. The preorders are not lost and most should be converted into sales in the future.

How many Canucks will pay the ridiculous price? Resale will be an absolute joke.
Still losers trying to dump totally worthless reservations.
Got a '24 Lightning XLT for $60k...employee price & $9,250 in rebates (BC)...incredible truck!

I'm surprised, that there seems to be surprise that despite the reservation list there are not enough takers. $39k seemed like a good deal, $100k+ is not a good deal, the market segment for $100k+ vehicles is small... That should not be a surprise

Ray K (not verified)    August 16, 2024 - 9:13PM

I reserved 3 days after the introduction.
The 4 wheel drive 2 motor option was to cost $49K USD
So why did I decline to take delivery?
I’ll give you 51K reasons.
Sorry but at $137K CDN I just can’t afford it.

I love the CT, I love Tesla.
However, I don't want to Beta test for a third time. We have low VIN# X and P3D.

I purposefully waited until CT had about 500k orders before I put mine in. Based on the information at the time I was expecting to get a few more years out of our current Teslas first.

Financially we are not ready right now and I really desired the top spec tri.

Because of taxes in Canada I would prefer to do FSD as subscription and additionally some of the foubdation accessories are not what I'm interested in. Light bar yes please.

The author did not conduct enough research, and is leaving out key facts. The reason Tesla is going through so many reservations, It's due to the fact these are orders are for the initial Foundation Series with a starting cost of $100k+. The majority of people, including myself, are only pushing their reservation back in order to get the other cybertruck models when they are produced. Saying they are all canceling is misleading, and nearly clickbait. Do better.

Tesla is ramping up production, so of course they're going to get through waiting lists quicker. How about showing the actual sales stats?

I love the Model 3 I bought my wife. She loves the car and looks great in it. I had a reservation for a Cybertruck but my conscience won’t let me pull the trigger. I worked for Toyota for 16 years and was a master technician when I left. I have been a union ironworker for 23 years now. I can tear down and repair most anything with prints or a schematic. I like electric vehicles they are very reliable. My point is I can’t support an owner that doesn’t value hard working union members that are providing for his income. Time has taught me that people can justify anything to get what they want but that does not make it right. The best get to shine in a union because they have to help their members get the skills to perform at their best. I feel for Tesla employees that work at the whim of one man that has no vested interest in their well being. Invest in this earth to keep it livable for those that we will leave behind. Not buying a Tesla in the foreseeable future.

I know why people are cancelling their reservations. The cybertuck is ugly and overpriced. There are a few other reasons related more specifically to the person running the company but I only say nice things about people and if I don't have nice things to say I don't say anything at all.

John (not verified)    August 17, 2024 - 10:19AM

Compelling reasons for people to cancel their orders are plentiful. One of the biggest reasons is almost certainly the 2.5x price bump you already mentioned. Many people are financially struggling at the moment, 40k is probably on the mid to higher end of vehicle price for the average consumer (ignoring ev discounts), many wouldn't be able to afford more than that even 20k, not to mention 60k. The one that stands out the most to me though is that more and more videos are surfacing of these trucks failing to perform in one way or another. EVs don't like Canadian winters. WhistlinDiesel in particular just released a video showing some good things about the truck, but also a bunch of bad - like how trying to get another truck unstuck ripped the tow hitch and the entire back end off the truck(!!), or the door exploding when you slam it closed, or the tonneau cover refusing to open and preventing access to the bed.

Sorry the tow hitch was broken against the concrete border BEFORE towing. Please watch the video again. This is one too many examples of false claims against this truck, the most abused ever.

Are you really this ignorant as a writer?
Tesla is selling the foundation series of the Cybertruck. They want to sell as many of those as possible before selling the non foundation for 79,999 starting this quarter or the next. Most people are waiting for that version. Tesla trying to sell as many of the 100k/120k versions as possible only makes perfect business sense. They still have about 2 million Cybertruck reservations....just not at the foundation pricing. Get a clue! It's embarrassing.

Hey, it appears that you were just speculating that Tesla had already ran through all of its reservations as I am Canadian and have 2 outstanding orders. One was placed the day reservations opened and a second a year or so later. My guess is that only the tri-motor or top-tier reservations were processed, possibly taking Autopilot into account as well. Both of my orders were for the dual-motor version, which I believe was more popular than the tri-motor. My reservation numbers start with RN112 and 113 respectively . Hope this helps paint a more accurate picture that there are many Canadians with unfulfilled Cybertruck orders. Cheers!

They didn't "run through" the reservations. All the lower cost model reservations remain. They merely gave priority to more expensive models.

"Given all the hype, it’s surprising to see Cybertruck sales nose-dive so quickly."

My brother in Christ, everyone with the exception of diehard fanbois know the reasons: the truck is poorly designed and constructed, it's a quality control nightmare (as are all Teslas but somehow even worse), it's expensive for no reason, it looks like a designer dumpster, and Tesla voids warranties on a whim. Flippers have quickly learned there's no lucrative secondary market for this junk. Elon actively driving away potential customers is just the icing on an already crappy cake. Mystery solved?

I live in Canada and ordered a cybertruck in 2020... I have not received any invitation to finalize the purchase. I believe many canceled because of the price, this huge windshield wiper that is weird and we question how to replace it and at what cost every winter because of our harsh winter conditions. There is also the question of doors that may freeze and will be difficult to open without any handle as a backup. Also the poor visibility with those two bars on each side that made many complain... The sharp edges that may trap a finger... so personally I am ambiguous. It seems that the stainless steel body needs to be wrapped to avoid fingerprints and other marks... Well that adds to the cost of the winter package... which makes Rivian competitive by comparison. So beyond the passion for anything Tesla, I find myself wondering if it will be more trouble than joy. I need to test drive one to make a final decision and spend an extra 100 k.

I ordered mine in 2021. When the price surpassed the $100k mark, it no longer made sense since the vehicle was not eligible for any government rebates and was now subject to the 20% luxury tax. With taxes, the truck would have been well over $155k - a far cry from the $63k price for the dual motor in 2021...
