Chevrolet Challenges the Competition by Increasing the Warranty on the 2024 Silverado 1500 TurboMax

Last spring, Chevrolet announced that it was renaming its 2.7L High-Output engine as the new TurboMax. It is a four-cylinder engine with a turbo. Chevrolet says the new engine is performing so well that it is increasing the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado TurboMax’s powertrain warranty from five years/60,000 miles to five years/100,000 miles. Chevrolet says “It’s a testament to the engineering and design that goes into TurboMax, and Chevrolet stands behind it.”

Expanded Warranty Surpasses Competitors

There is no question that the majority of truck buyers rely on their vehicles for important tasks and reliability is a major concern. Extending the warranty sends the message that the Silverado is built to last and can stand up to significant wear and tear. The Silverado’s new TurboMax powertrain warranty lasts 40,000 miles longer than competitors’ offerings, and matches the same warranty applied to Duramax-powered Silverado pickups. Interestingly, Chevrolet deliberately leaves the four-cylinder description out of most of its press materials.

“As we’ve said before, we engineered TurboMax to deliver the durability and performance expected by our truck customers,” said Kevin Luchansky, assistant chief engineer, 2.7L engine. “The result continues to turn skeptics into believers with best-in-class 430 lb-ft of torque and 310 HP. The whole team is proud of this engine, and this warranty extension exudes our confidence.”

• 2,260 LBS — 2WD

• 9,300 LBS — 4WD

When the engine was renamed the TurboMax, Chevrolet released this statement.

“TurboMax is built like a diesel: it’s durable and packs turbocharged performance to win over both diesel and V-8 customers alike,” said Kevin Luchansky, assistant chief engineer, 2.7L Turbo Engine. “The TurboMax name encapsulates the modern engineering, manufacturing and controls which shuts the door on arguments against turbocharged engines from decades ago.”

The 2024 Silverado 1500 goes into production this month. The TurboMax engine will be available across the Silverado lineup, from WT to LT trims. The name of 2.7L engine in the midsize Colorado pickup was also switched to TurboMax. It will be interesting to see if Chevrolet’s latest move forces its competitors to increase their warranties as well.
