Where did the v6 go? Honda Accord owners want to know

Honda Accord owners everywhere want to know why Honda is scraping the v6 for 2018.

Since the 1982 debut of the Honda Accord in the U.S. its seen many different styles of there inline 4-cylinder. It wasn't until 1995 that the v6 showed up and started to “WOW” Accord fans. Now over 20 years later it looks like the v6 will be taking the back seat to the inline 4-cylinder once again.

If you are an Accord lover like me and you have an inline 4 than chances are at some point you longed for the power of the v6. Some even wanted it so much that they would go through the trouble of ripping out the 4-cylinder to swap in the 6v. Power-hungry Accord fans have been modifying their engines ever since I can remember so when the v6 started launching in the Accord it changed things, it became the mod.

Sure, you could slap a fancy cold air intake or exhaust on your 4cyl maybe even a turbo or an ECU tune, but all those things could be done to the v6 as well and yield greater results. I too must admit that at some point I wished upon a star that my Accord came with a v6 to play with.

The accord has a long history in the U.S. being the first U.S. produced car from a manufacturer in Japan. Not to mention holding the title for the best selling car in the states many times over. So it seems like we've worked our way up to the v6 and its DOHC power. So now after all this time why are we seeing it fade away?

I would have to say it comes down to the advancement of technology. Everyone wants fuel efficiency, but most don't want it at the cost of performance. We all know gas prices can change without warning. That's why I think they took out the option of a v6 and gave the 4 V a turbo. Even the base model gets a turbo!

I feel they wanted to make it more economical while still providing performance. It also gets a newly redesigned transmission to help all these things come together. So don't despair about losing the v6 in the new accord. It should still be a fun peppy car to haul your family around in with the base model producing 192 horsepower.

Most people (like myself) I would assume want a certain level of fun out of driving their car. No guy wants to buy a minivan they would rather cart their family around in a gas-guzzling SUV of some type just for fun factor alone. With the new Accord, you should get the best of both worlds. Fun and economical plus I got to say I'm excited to see a base model with a turbo.

I think Honda has consistently made some of the most reliable cars. Why not go with popular demand and continue to satisfy the Honda Accord v6 owners and , as a compromise, or competition between it's own versions of the Accord, the sales of each model can determine whether to keep the Accord v6. Personally, as a v6 fan myself, the v6 would probably boost Honda car sales significantly. Honda has lost car sales over the decision to drop the Accord v6. People like the v6 for it's speed, and quiet engine . So,shouldn't it be a no brainer to keep a v6 Accord that's been so successful for those consumers that wish for those features? The bottom line folks.... sales of the v6 vs the sale of the inline 4 speak for itself . Don't replace an option that can significantly improve the Honda car sales. When you limit what you can choose from, consumers will most likely shop for something else. For those who are looking for a fast, but quiet engine, it only makes sense to keep the Honda v6.

Today I was looking to buy an Accord. I was a previous Accord owner but switched a few years ago to Acura….Now that I read there is no V-6 I will stop my search...I won't buy a 4 cylinder car...Period.... So they have lost a sale....

I'm shocked that Honda quietly got rid of the V6. I just bought my daughter a 2015 Accord EX-L V6 and she loves it. I'm glad I did not buy a new model with the V4 Turbo.

I own a 2011 Honda Accord coup with the V6 and wouldn't trade it for a 4 cyl. turbo ever! Love that V6 power, and I think they shouldn't have ever discontinued it., but that's just me.

I’m looking to buy a new car and thought that Honda still had the V6. I’m seriously considering a Toyota Camry just because of the V6 engine. I love the power, gas mileage and just the sound of the engine. What a disappointment. Let me know if you ever return the V6 in the accord.

I had a 2008 Honda Accord v6 I was definitely not going down to a 4cyl so instead I invested into a 2013 Infiniti G37xs I love the power way better option to me then buying a 4 cylinder I just don’t understand Honda why switch it now and why stop making the coupe I will not be buying another Honda until I see v6 come back I’ve been looking at the new tlx

I had a 2008 SE V-6 and it dropped into a 4cyl when power wasn't needed but had 300hp 192hp from a 4cyl nope not even with the turbo will that help u might as well buy a Civic at that point and I assume the civic now dropped lower as well? Its stupid honestly they should offer a Accord 2 dr sport with a 6cyl and a 4dr 6cyl Hondas way to push u into a $50K Acura

We had a 2003 Honda and a Mercedes. When we heard that both manufacturers were dropping the v6 we went out and bought two 2017 Honda Accord- V6s I went from a V8 to a V6 and won't go any lower. Drop the Honda four as a loaner- terrible. Bring back the V6

I own 2013 Honda Accord V6 Touring. Bought this car second hand. I put K&N cold air intake, switched to Borla exhaust and ditched the resonator. What a wicked car! Presently my girl has 335,085 and still going strong. This is my winter driving car as I drive all over the place for work. My Accord drive through snow like a champ. Recently I bought 2019 Honda Accord Sport 1.5L turbo. It doesn’t meet my power expectations. Gas mileage wise, my 2013 Accord is better that my newer Accord. I want the V6 back!

Sadly, my 2017 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L V6 may probably be my last Honda. I love love love my "white litnin" and will keep her for as long as she will drive. She has more power than I could ever dream of and hot looking too! So sad to see them go, please bring them back!!!
