I just saw on X that replying to one user Tesla's SVP of Powertrain and Energy Drew Baglino wrote that Tesla's "Sentry Mode power consumption needs improvement." He also added that his Tesla "team is working to reduce by about 40% in a Q2 software update."
These improvements over time have a massive effect. Maintaining Sentry Mode is huge for safely monitoring your Tesla.
This is a good promise for a nice improvement. Maybe they can also allow it to stay on until 15% charge too.
Tesla owners need this improvement ASAP. One Tesla owner wrote a reply to Sawyer Merritt's post, saying he left his vehicle's Sentry Model on overnight on accident and the battery went from 70-56%. "We need this update ASAP," he wrote.
I would say give Tesla about two weeks for this update. If the vehicle can save energy in a particular department will this translate into an improvement range? How much range do you think Tesla vehicles will get if they are able to spend 40% less energy in Sentry Mode?
An X user, named Mark, thinks this will be huge improvement from Tesla, "as it currently averages about 1 mi/h range consumption right now."
"Drew, there's a semi-hidden low-power Sentry Mode (cameras off until intrusion or shock detected) - maybe hone in on that as a secondary, low-power option as well," suggests another user, giving a tip to Tesla for further improvements.
Apparently the Sentry Mode uses a lot of power in Tesla vehicles and this can be very handy update, exciting Tesla owners.
"That will be very handy. I have mine off most of the time since it uses a fair amount of power. I only use it if I'm leaving the car sone place out of my usual routine. It’s basically putting more “miles” on the battery, since it results in more charge cycles over the life of the battery. 40% less power and I'll go back to default on (accept home)," writes Darryn Appleton in the same place.
Isn't it amazing how much can be done with an OTA update?
Here is Tesla's Sentry Mode in action.
