The All-New 2024 Subaru Forester Is Next New Launch And What’s Coming

Will the Subaru Forester compact SUV be redesigned in 2024? Find out what’s coming next.

Should customers wait for the 2024 Subaru Forester or buy the 2023 model? Customers waiting for the 2024 Subaru Forester should know it’s likely to get a complete redesign with a new exterior, interior, and possible engine upgrades.

Subaru has yet to announce the all-new sixth-generation Subaru Forester and if it will arrive as a 2024 model. The current 2023 Forester is in its fifth generation, and the sixth generation will come with a complete redesign from the ground up.

2024 Subaru Forester

If everything goes as expected, the compact SUV will be redesigned in the second half of 2023 and be available as a 2024 model. The anticipated 2024 Forester release date in the U.S. is the fall or winter of 2023.

Here is what’s next for the Forester compact SUV

The Subaru Forester compact SUV received a complete remodel for 2019. However, if Subaru stays with its five-year life cycle, the all-new sixth-generation Subaru Forester will arrive as a 2024 model.

The 2022 Forester received a “refresh,” and the 2023 Forester is a carry-over model with no upgrades. However, for customers who can wait, Forester comes with new improvements.

What upgrades will the 2024 Forester have?

Subaru is tight-lipped about future product plans, and they have made no announcements about the 2024 Forester. Planet Subaru says the next-generation Forester will get new exterior styling, interior, infotainment, and safety features.

Like the 2024 Crosstrek, Forester will get the next-generation EyeSight driver assist safety technology, an updated Subaru Global Platform with improved driving dynamics and ride quality, a quieter cabin, updated infotainment, and a larger 11.6-inch tablet-style touchscreen.

Also, look for the new 2024 Forester to get more supportive front seats, a wireless phone charger, aerodynamic improvements, and a heated steering wheel in the Forester Wilderness.

What engine will the new Forester have?

Subaru will likely stay with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine, which will be re-tuned for improved performance and fuel mileage. It’s unsure if the Forester will get the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine upgrade.

Will Subaru offer a sixth-generation all-electric Forester?

Planet Subaru does say, “We know with considerable certainty that there will be no all-electric Forester for 2024.” They say the all-electric Subaru Solterra EV is about the same size as the Forester, so that the all-new model will keep its gas-powered Boxer engine.

Will Forester get a new hybrid powertrain?

Subaru will likely offer a Forester hybrid engine option with Toyota technology to meet ever-more-demanding emissions regulations. Subaru says they will have a new hybrid model by 2025, but they have yet to identify which Subaru vehicle it will be.

Forester inventory is improving.

Subaru announced its new model production and export numbers in its Japanese factories. New vehicle production increased 42.0 percent in March, the second month of consecutive increase. Subaru makes the U.S.-specification 2023 Subaru Forester, all-new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Base and Premium trims, and the new 2024 Subaru Impreza compact hatchback at the Japanese factory. As a result, wait times for the new models should improve.

Subaru of America will announce the 2024 Forester compact SUV next, and it should get a complete remodel. The 2024 Forester will arrive this fall or winter. Stay tuned.

Turbo is like SBS you onlynewc it once to save your life the same for turbo it Isa hidden power that you only need it when you need it period.
I am a preventive or defensive driver trying alwsys to predict anydriver in front or rear wrong move, it is called psychological drivers mistakes that I see d1ily on any road besides the jerk drivers those are DOA the longer the journey the worse it becomes.

I agree, 2.4 Turbo please. Needed for uphill mountain passing and freeway on ramps. Need to downsize from my Outback but want the power of the turbo.

Funny enough the 2024 crosstrek and impreza with the 2.5 were also "tubes for better performance and fuel economy. Both get worse MPG than they did with the previous model and the performance is almost identical. '

Ability to complete block Haldex between front and rear wheels.
In deep wet snow, about 5-8 inches, with ice under it, on northern USA roads, current construction tends to overheat after several miles, which leads to overheat of fluid, complete turn of of the rear wheels drive, stuck at the middle of nowhere, long and not free road assistance to get to regulary cleared from snow road, and full change of working CVT+Haldex fluid.

Wilderness definetly deserves full block system. Even if it will raise price by 500-1000 bucks.

2.4 engine good for fun, not actually needed to get here or there. More and more cameras all around every year and Forester not a drugster.

Interesting that the 2024 Crosstrek Sport. Limited and Wilderness are the only ones being made in the Indiana plant. It would be interesting to see if there is any difference in reliability data between them.

As of now, it's very likely I'll trade in my 2021 Forester and purchase a 2024 Forester. I would like to see a hybrid option, but whether or not I buy one will depend on two factors: how much extra that feature will cost, plus how much improvement in mpg it will bring.

I think Subaru should make the moonroof tilt in the aft position. I know it's large and wonderful but it would be best if it would tilt like the outback even though the outback is smaller.

Cup holders are a little too far back but maybe incorporate the side panels to better accommodate.

I totally agree! We have had 10-12 Subaru’s, mostly Outback’s & went to a Forester in 22, mostly for extra garage room. Cup holder design position is not beneficial to the driver, reaching backwards is awkward & uncomfortable. Hopefully this gets addressed???

2.4 turbo in the refresh or I'm moving on from Subaru. Have a 2915 XT with no issues. Blast to drive. 25 mpg around town an upper 20's highway. Run 93 octane since new.

James (not verified)    May 16, 2023 - 6:27PM

I'd like less, not more. New cars are bloated with expensive and unnecessary things I don't want to pay for. I don't need 13 cameras, an onboard laptop and annoying chimes to help me back up a car or stay in my lane. These "features" are mostly expensive bugs.

Get rid of the CVT and go with a regular 8 speed transmission and/or a 6 speed manual. CVTs are a pain.

Am in the process of ordering a 2024 forester wilderness. Your article was exciting BUT when I discussed it with the subaru rep he says will not happening till the 2025 models. Can you clarify this? I like to know what I will be receiving . Thank you...

TorqueNews has no source here other than some conjecture from Planet Subaru theorizing about when the new generation would release. In the past it was 5-year cycles, so 2024 MY made sense. They've shown they're moving away from that, though. Crosstrek got a 6-year cycle, Impreza got a 7-year. Outback looks to be getting 6-year, too. Some more legitimate rumors point to a 2024 calendar year (2025 MY) release of the next-gen Forester. There haven't even been testers spied on the road. You're probably ordering the last MY of the current generation.

Martin (not verified)    May 18, 2023 - 2:23AM

I have a 2021 Forester. I am disappointed that while the vehicle safety system beeps and applies the brakes when getting too close to an object it does not stop the vehicle either going forward or backwards. I know that the Nissan Rogue comes standard with more safety features including stopping the vehicle going forward or backwards.
If the 2024 Forester does not come standard with the ability to actually STOP the vehicle in either direction this will be a deal breaker. This is my 5th Forester.

You're doing something wrong then. With reverse auto braking if there is an obstacle behind you it will absolutely bring you to a complete stop. When traveling forward the pre collision braking will bring you to a complete stop but can only handle a speed difference of 30 MPH between you and the obstacle in front of you.

A Forester Hybrid please, with significant improvement to MPG is necessary. Thanks for the opportunity to comment!

Come on Subaru !!! Turbo, turbo, turbo !!! Frustrated former owner of 2018 XT Touring, t - bone wreck total. All new Foresters suck for power.

Rachelle (not verified)    May 29, 2023 - 4:57PM

Turbo would be nice but some unique color options would be awesome! And more console space...there is little space now in all suvs

A normally aspirated Forester with RAV4Prime electrics and a Photovoltaic roof in Wilderness Configuration would be an excellent vehicle and an opportunity for Subaru to, in addition to the WRX, rise above mediocrity.
