Tesla Cybertruck Owner Complains About Loud Wind Noise; Tesla Says, “The Only Way to Stop the Noise is by Putting a Tape Over the Panel Gaps”

A Tesla Cybertruck owner took his truck in for service because of loud wind noise in the cabin. However, to his surprise, Tesla turned him back, saying the only way to reduce the noise was by putting tape over the body panels.

A Cybertruck owner says he recently took his truck in for service because of a noise complaint.

However, he adds that Tesla turned him back and stated that the only way to lower the loud noise was to apply tape over the body panels.

The surprised Cybertruck owner shared his experience on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.

Here is what he wrote…

“Is it just my Cybertruck?! Tesla said there is nothing they can do about the noise. Is that normal? I hear the loud noise only from the driver's side.”

Below his post, the Cybertruck owner shared a screenshot of what his Tesla service tech noted after examining his truck.

The Tesla service tech wrote down the complaint as told by the Cybertruck owner.

Here is what he wrote…

Concern: Customer states: Wind Noise - I already took this issue to Tesla service and was told this is standard. However, after driving a loaner Cybertruck you provided, I found that the noise in my Cybertruck is much stronger than in others.”

One good thing here is that the Tesla tech has taken down the Cybertruck owner’s complaint properly.

Unfortunately, after examining the vehicle, the Tesla technician says there is no fix for the loud noise other than applying tape to cover the panel gaps.

He writes…

“Repair Notes: Verified the customer’s concern. Drove and compared with two other trucks of similar VIN range and found the turbulence noise was consistent in all trucks, some even louder than this vehicle.

I found that taping off the panel gap between the driver's front fender and the frunk reduced the noise; however, no adjustment to those panels is possible due to body fitment specifications.

The noise heard is normal air turbulence that is expected with a higher speed. No further action is required at this time.”

Finally, the Tesla tech concluded the repair note by writing that the issue was covered under a basic limited vehicle warranty.

Being told the only way to reduce the loud noise on your $100,000 car is to put tape over the panel gaps is far from ideal.

However, looking at the comments, some Cybertruck owners suggested that the noise issue was due to the Cybertruck being an older build.

In response, the Cybertruck owner says he took delivery of his truck less than 2 months ago, at the end of December.

Another interesting point is that several other Cybertruck owners expressed their frustration with loud wind noise on their Cybertrucks.

One Cybertruck owner, Mike Brucker, even shared a bizarre experience he had with a Tesla service tech.

The Tesla technician wore a winter hat over his ears during a test drive meant to identify the wind noise.

Mike describes his experience writing…

“I brought my Cybertruck into service for wind noise this week. During our test drive, the technician was wearing a winter hat, and I suggested that it might be easier to hear it if his ears weren’t covered.

He said no, he was fine, and he could hear it. Then, he noted on the service ticket that he didn’t hear any wind noise.

I also have a speaker that clearly is making a terrible rattle like it’s blown, and the tech noted that I was streaming music, playing louder than 75%, with no issues found at 75% volume.”

This is, again, not an ideal situation, and it appears that several Cybertruck owners have similarly unanswered loud noise complaints.

Overall, this is frustrating, but now Cybertruck owners at least know they can put tape over the body panels to reduce the wind noise.

Just can't believe the responses I am reading from tesla technicians are real... i am not sure, if this is just someone writing this up, to discredit the company.

The solution for this is ridiculous. For the amount of money spent on these trucks, Tesla should be able to come up with a solution.

The usual Tesla service fix seems to be to not fix it!
It should be clear by now that to avoid all these rediculous issues with a Cybertruck is to not buy anything from Tesla!
Seriously though, try buying some automotive weatherstrip material from Temu, they have lots of different types and some are sold to fix this exact problem with road noise on poorly made automobiles! It's worth a try and it will probably apply easily and stay put, unlike the tape the service department used!
Again if you haven't yet, don't buy a Tesla, that are not really a car company. Their EV tech is well engineered, however it takes a lot more experience to make the whole package that is a well refined automobile.

If I were going to spend 6 figures on a vehicle it wouldn't be that rolling dumpster. It would be a Mercedes or Audi.

I can't believe that someone would pay that much for a vehicle and then be told these ridiculous resolutions for their problem with their vehicle. First of all the cars and trucks are ugly and second they are not worth that kind of money. But I guess there are fools around every corner that would buy these hunks of ugly metal to just say they have one.

I have a model 3 and complained to Tesla about wind noise on freeway and was told wind noise wasn't a covered complaint even though it was a common complaint! Our local service center is useless! They wanted to charge me 100.00 just to bring in to trouble shoot why I couldn't open the glove compartment.I saved 100.00 and troubleshooter it myself! The service person said he knew but couldn't tell me how because I needed to bring in.

I think they deserve everything they get for buying a Tesla, especially a cybertruck. Karma is a bitch. 🤣

Tesla Cybertruck owner and stupid. Who spends that type of money on a piece of shit, from the beginning knowing it's a piece of ship. I tell you who, dumb ass people, fad followers and shit head!

Y'all are kidding right? action $100000 + boat anchor who can't operate in snow or off road has wind noise and you didn't see this coming? Look the technology is no where near ready for EV. Cars that burst in flame, cars you need to put in car wash mode, cars that can't climb a simple hill that has snow on it. No thank you I'll keep my ICE vehicles

If you can afford that vehicle, just spent an extra $20k to wrap it, then you can REALLY show everyone what a DF you are. You only bought it to show off and you’re just making Elon richer as you get poorer.

It seems like the best thing to help the Cybertruck bad sound is make it more aerodynamic (like all the other models of Tesla). The sharp edges to me, probably have some structural advantages. But as to toughness and perhaps manufacturing, I don't know. You get what you pay for. To me, it is definitely not worth the price. I wish it looked as cool as the new Ford Bronco.

How many times are you going to re word and re say the same thing? You have the easiest job in the world with Ai now and you're still a pathetic writer

Chris (not verified)    February 23, 2025 - 10:07AM

It's clearly not "the only way".

I'm sure there's some kind of weatherstripping or caulk or butyl rubber or damping material that could be installed where it would close up the space inside the panel gap.

Also, the noise itself may be occurring after the wind passes through that gap into another area, something resonating. Those can also be addressed with damping and noise reduction techniques.

You'd like to think Tesla would have done these things on a $100k truck, but you can add this to the long list of insufficient engineering that overlord Musk forced through on his egotistical desire to manufacturer a drawing from his childhood. But there's lots of products and shops who can even turn a Toyota Corolla into a Rolls Royce. "Tape" is never the answer - and shows they equally cheaped out with the quality of their "techs" they hire.

I have always looked up to people with high incomes as those who were smart, and sharp, and maybe notice things that others don't. This thought process has now gone down the toilet since the introduction of the Cybertrucks. It's hard for me to comprehend the numbers of people paying six figures for a poorly planned out experimental useless toy that you can't even throw your bike into. Those who paid over list in the summer of 2024 have now seen their purchase lose $70,000 USD, in under a year. There are so many better ways to blow 70 grand.

Cute!? Ugliest vehicle ever built. To me it looks like a big dirty ice block coming down the road. To now learn about major issues like wind noise... takes the cake. Brilliant thing about hair plant Elon is he, like DJT,
(crappy tennis shoes), can spot the suckers en masse enough to fund a Hell of a lot their BS scamming.

Worked on my F250 too!

Early CTs had more fit problems. The tech did due diligence finding the noise source. The article has loaded wording making the problem seem worse than it is.

Clearly Cyber truck owners still refuse to believe that they have been taken.

Because they spent ungodly money on a incredibly ugly, unusable and low functioning vehicle that does not meet any of the sales hype. (Except for the 0 to 60) Which multiple other bteeendeaigned, engineered and built vehicle can do better.b

All I can say about the cybertruck.,..it's way overrated and a waste of money. Pretty soon ,in the near future, Tesla will go the way of the dinosaurs.

Kevin (not verified)    February 24, 2025 - 10:07AM

All I ever hear about these cybertrucks, is nothing but problems with them. Everyone should just stop buying these damn trucks. They're a piece of shit.
