Tesla Cybertruck A/C Stops Working in the Middle of Canadian Cold – To Stop Himself From Freezing, The Cybertruck Owner Had to Drive on the Highway With Insulated Coat On

A Cybertruck owner details his harrowing journey from Montreal to Toronto when his truck’s A/C suddenly stopped working. The owner says he wasn’t able to defrost or defog his Cybertruck and had to put on a down jacket to prevent himself from freezing.

Chuanrui Wu is a brand new Cybertruck owner from Ontario, Canada, and says his life was at risk when his truck’s A/C stopped working in the middle of the cold while he was driving on the highway.

Chuanrui was returning from a trip from Montreal back to Toronto when his Cybertruck heater failed. In this icy environment, the Cybertruck owner says he was forced to wear insulated clothes to keep himself from freezing.

Not only that but without the A/C working, Chuanrui was unable to defrost or defog his windshield, making his trip that much more perilous.

Chuanrui shared his predicament on the Cybertruck Canada Facebook group, and the story was later reposted on Reddit.

Here is what he wrote…

“I recently drove my Cybertruck from Toronto to Montreal for a skiing trip. During the initial leg of the trip, everything worked perfectly, and using FSD (Full Self-Driving) made the journey very convenient. However, after a few days, the heater in my Cybertruck started malfunctioning—it worked sometimes and then stopped completely. This caused serious issues as I could no longer defog or defrost the windows.

On the way back to Toronto, the heater wasn’t working at all, and I had to wear a down jacket inside the truck just to stay warm. The windows were fogged up the entire time, and I couldn’t find any effective solution. Driving on the highway in such conditions felt extremely unsafe.”

It’s bad enough when the A/C stops working on a hot day; however, not working while driving on the highway in the middle of snow is not only inconvenient but downright dangerous.

I wonder, if Chuanruai’s trip had ended in a crash, would Tesla have taken responsibility for the accident?

Continuing his post, Chanraui says he was only able to keep driving with the aid of Tesla’s FSD software. According to the Toronto resident, this has increased his confidence in the software, but he says he feels let down by the Cybertruck’s performance in the cold.

 Here is what he wrote…

“Without FSD, this would have been even more dangerous. While I think FSD performs well in icy and snowy conditions, the Cybertruck itself does not. This experience has left me very frustrated and concerned about the Cybertruck’s reliability in winter conditions.”

Finally, Chuanrui concludes his post by sharing several pictures of his Cybertruck’s center touchscreen, showing the error message he received and that the A/C function was unavailable.

Listening to Chuanrui’s story, the situation looks bad for Tesla; however, fellow Cybertruck owners believe that Chuanrui should have expected this would happen in a first-generation vehicle and that he shouldn’t complain.

For example, Dan GL writes, “It is to be expected for the 1st generation to have some issues. They will fix it for you.”

Sass Peress adds, “You bought a first-year vehicle. Let that be your worst issue. Get it fixed at the showroom.”

Bob Newby agrees, "Don’t buy Gen 1 of any new product. Thankfully, the early adopters will show what needs to be improved.”

Thomas Hekl writes, “Well if you have to be the first macho guy in Canada to buy a brand new Cybertruck, you are buying it with a developer package. You didn’t know that?”

Overall, the sentiment amongst Cybertruck owners and Tesla fans is that these kinds of failures are to be expected in a first-generation vehicle. However, I would counter that the vehicle has been out for a year, and Tesla should have worked out these issues already.

First year or not, a car should work. Auxiliaries also.

Then if anything is not working and that malfunction makes the car unsafe, you shouldn't drive it!!!!!!!!!!

It's got to suck not to have AC in the cold! Who cares? I use the heater in the cold myself, save the AC for the summer.

Wow the musk apologists are strong with this. I bought a 1st gen 2024 chevy silverado everything works it's crazy other companies don't have these issues. But the musk fan boys are forever making excuses for the crappy build quality and janky nature of those vehicles. Tesla has the most dangerous vehicles in the world most deaths per billion miles driven.

Because the HVAC/heater system wasn’t working which is a safety hazard, he should not have driven the vehicle. Period It’s a chargeable offence and he put other people’s lives in danger.
Then to complain about the vehicle on the internet! Really?

That's what I always want, Full-Blown air conditioning in the middle of winter.

You can tell these articles are written by a bot.

It's so alarming to hear that someone freely admits to driving a vehicle along the 401 that is dangerous to be driving. Is he that selfish to think he is only endangering himself to be driving it?? Cars break down. People need to plan and be prepared to act in appropriate ways. There are tow trucks, CAA memberships etc.etc. Grow up.

This saga of the daily updates on the three people and their three weirdly specific vehicle issues from the previous day has become outright obnoxious!

Why are we not being informed on all the failing HVAC systems from those two 20 somethings in NYC this past Monday? Or the failing window motors that the two F-150 drivers experienced last weekend? What about the poorly installed rotors creating those horrifying screams in the neighborhood that those two senior citizens dealt with last Thursday? The missing bolts in the exhaust manifold on the entire fleet of Jeep Wranglers in the 2023 model? The "bricked" radios on all the Land Rovers that rolled off the factory floor from production date 06/22/23?

These articles wouldn't exist if it wasn't Tesla. Nobody would care just like nobody cares about any other vehicles issues that statistically outweigh Teslas percentages by a long shot. Do your own Google research if you think I'm wrong. I'm so tired of seeing these nonsense articles.

Returning from a ski trip suggests a certain amount of privilege to even been able to set forth on that trip. If the car is not functioning properly and puts the driver/owner of said vehicle into perilous conditions, it also puts others in a perilous situation. Fix the car before driving said vehicle to avoid the danger to oneself and others. My 1983 300D Mercedes doesn’t have these problems.

It is interesting to hear the comme ts about the first gen cybertruck. The technology in the truck is used in the other models so why should he expect it to fail. Tesla isn't a startup and after more than. 10 years in the industry he should have a level of expectation thT the cyber truck should meet. This feature isn't a new ground breaking technology.

Maybe just me, but I think with ANY product, ALL bugs & issues should be taken care of BEFORE sales ever begin. Where's the QC?

Gary Busey (not verified)    December 9, 2024 - 7:37AM

Not only did he buy a piece of overpriced garbage, but he showed contempt for the safety of his fellow drivers by using flawed FSD in Ontario - which is he doesn't have permission to use in the province.

I hope his toy becomes a money hole for him.

Kevin (not verified)    December 9, 2024 - 7:47AM

Why should Tesla take responsibility if the driver chose to drive the vehicle when it was unsafe to do so based on the weather and physical condition of the truck? Everyone wants a way to shirk personal accountability.

Amanda Hugnkis (not verified)    December 9, 2024 - 8:19AM

He had to wear a winter coat inside a car in wintery? Oh no!!
You mean like every single Canadian does in winter?
That was a useless part which adds nothin to story. Oh no, he had to wear his tuque in car.
The no defrost part is infinitely more important and dangerous.

These Tesla trucks seem to be having too many issues. I think they should be pulled off of the market before someone gets killed. It’s not worth a life.

Just because it is a Tesla doesn't mean it won't have some of the same problems you can have in a traditional vehicle. Tired of seeing articles that bash Tesla because the driver of the car is being stupid - it's not Tesla's fault people are stupid. I have driven my Model X now for over 5 years. This guy needed to stop and buy some deicer spray for the windows if he insisted on driving. If the car does lose power you are not 'locked' in as some media has reported in media that is driver error.

Yet another reason to believe they released the Cybertruck two years too soon without proper testing or reliability evaluation. You are both the alpha and beta testers.

LB (not verified)    December 9, 2024 - 9:19AM

Thank goodness no one was killed while you were on the road. You should have called a tow if you could not see out of your windows. That was very poor judgement

CycleGuy (not verified)    December 9, 2024 - 9:41AM

Why would Tesla be responsible?
A situation occurred that made the vehicle dangerous to drive, yet the operator decided to continue to drive (his decision to put himself and others at risk), not Tesla. There were many safer choices he could have made, while inconvenient, that would not have risked his or others safety.
When are we going to make people personally responsible for their bad decisions!
I am not a Tesla owner nor do I want a Tesla. This decision making can be applied to any brand or better yet many real life circumstances. Stop blaming others for your bad decisions. Accept responsibility for the choices you make, good or bad!

We don't use A/C in the winter. We use Heaters. The writer of this article must not have ever experienced a winter before. You should really delete this article given the headline is completely incorrect. A/Cs are used in the summer, not the winter...

Biff (not verified)    December 9, 2024 - 11:16AM

EVs are worse for the environment and anyone who drives one should be deported to another country. I always hope the battery explodes while these idiots are driving them, getting rid of the idiot who bought one and the piece of crap vehicle itself. Stupid Asians.

John Carman (not verified)    December 9, 2024 - 11:27AM

If driving the cybertruck was unsafe, an alternate course of action could have been to pull off the highway at a gas station and wait for a tow truck or service, or possible contact Tesla to see if the situation could be solved with an remote over air fix.

Driving while feeling in danger or unsafe
was the drivers choice.

Todd (not verified)    December 9, 2024 - 11:35AM

Between the misinformation spewed by the author to the idiot behind the wheel of a failed cyber truck, this world is doomed to fail due to idiots. Bring backbone death penalty and stop making safety rules to keep the retards alive, it's time to let stupid people Darwin themselves and stop saving them. The Buffalo run away from predators and the slow (retarded) ones get eaten and make the rest of the herd stronger. We have retards saving retards making the human race dumber

Dang (not verified)    December 9, 2024 - 12:02PM

The apologists for this dumpster fire of a vehicle are unbelievable. You are putting yours and everyone else's life on the road in danger when driving one of these pieces of garbage.
