Some vehicles see the paint begin to come off in as little as one year. The problem affects nearly 2 million vehicles. Toyota White Blizzard Pearl Support Program Phase 1 Notification
Toyota began notifying owners last year in the fall. The owners of Toyotas with white or blizzard pearl paint received a letter notifying them of the upcoming support.

Phase 2 - Repair
Toyota's second phase will consist of a repair made by your local dealer at no cost to you. Any authorized Toyota Dealership can determine if a condition is covered by this Customer Support Program, not just the one from which the vehicle was purchased.

Contact your dealer if you have an affected vehicle. They will tell you the schedule and plan for repairs to your vehicle. Those owners who wish to have direct contact with Toyota on this issue can call the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-888-270-9371 Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Saturday 7:00 am to 4:30 pm.

If you have a Toyota with Blizzard Pearl or Super White paint that seems defective please tell us about it in the comments below. Detail your contact with Toyota and how the issue is being handled. Your experience may help a fellow owner.

2011 GX460 in Starfire Pearl: hood is peeling in several spots. Not sure if we need to call Lexus or Toyota to attempt to add ourselves to the list.

Bought a 2012 Corolla ascent paint peeled on hatch door. Toyota’s repairer fixed it. Two years later the whole body of vehicle’s paint is coming off randomly. Went back to dealer who denied it was a paint job problem. Went to Toyota repairer anyway and was told it was caused by either stones, hail?? Or leaving it out in weather - duh, or bird crap that’s not been washed off. Now I read all these comments and am taking it back to dealer who obviously knows there is a problem and I’ve been robbed off. Thank you.

We have a 2013 RAV4 Limited in Blizzard Pearl. The entire roof is peeling off. There is also a huge spot right above the windshield as well as smaller spots in other places on the vehicle. We never received recall notification however we contact our local Toyota dealership (Rosner) and took it in for a paint evaluation last week. We are waiting to hear from them.

My 2009 White Highlander is having extensive delamination on the top middle. Toyota covers all their cars except PRIUS and Highlanders. WHY? Its criminal that they shirk acknowledging defective paint/prep at their factory

2015 Avalon w/Blizzard Pearl White. The dealer installed a paint sealant on the car which I ensured was serviced every 6 months to ensure my warranty. A few months after my last sealant update, the peeling started. I have 6 areas where this is happening. My claim has to sent to Toyota for approval, the local dealer cannot resolve it without their approval.

As a follow up to my post. Toyota approved my repair. Car has dropped Monday, rental provided during repair, they stated it would take about a week to fix. So lucky me!! Thanks Torque News for reminding me to check it out.

I have a 2010 Prius with severe paint peeling all along the windshield rails.
The paint is also Blizzard Pearl white. I call Toyoda and they said my car is not covered by the extended customer support plan. I was hoping that if enough customers complain that Toyoda would make it right.

I have a 2015 Tacoma with the Super White paint. I am now experiencing peeling on two different doors and on a door frame that isn't even in direct sunlight. Toyota customer care is saying that there is no recall on the vehicle but added that there was a possibility that it could be added in the future.

I own a 2015 Toyota Rav4, white color and just recently the paint started to bubble up when wet and after a few days the paint started to peel off and break. the area is now about 15 inches in diameter. I contacted AutoNation Toyota in Irvine and left a message for Matt in the collision center who I am expecting a call back from to begin the process to get my vehicle fixed. I will provide an update as progress is made.

I own a 2015 Toyota Avalon with Blizzard White. I had paint sealant added when I bought the car cause I hate to wax. Within 6 months of my last application, i.e. end of warranty. I had areas start to flake. Mostly odd spots, i.e. truck rim, door sill areas. After inspection at the dealer 6 spots were identified and submitted for repair. Just received word that Toyota approved to fix. I take my car in Monday 2/8/21. Word is they will have it 2 weeks to fix, but will be supplying a rental in the interim.

I have a 2013 Highlander with BP paint that’s peeling and the dealership and Corporation say they’re not aware of issues for Highlanders. The paint was done at a different factory. More and more ppl on FB are reporting the same with theirs. Toyota needs to make good for their other customers!

i have a 2012 toyota highlander i have the paint in recall the roof is peeliong all over my paint white blizzard 070/LA40 WHY IS NOT COVERED IN THE RERCALL?

Cheryl Courtney (not verified)    February 10, 2021 - 8:11PM

I called the dealership 2 weeks ago. I told the the customer service rep what my issue was. He played dumb and said nothing really. I said, "Well, doesn't this fall under the mass voluntary recall, with the white paint, except for those poor unfortunates that were excluded"? He hemmed and hawed said nothing, only I should bring it in. I said. "More and more people are stepping forward, with paint issues on models not covered by the voluntary "low key under the table" recall. Sounds like Toyota is fixing to have a class action lawsuit to me. This could get ugly. Some people have been fighting Toyota for years on this exact paint issue, and they never took responsibility. Toyota needs to take responsibility, they dropped the ball on this"! He said nothing! I can't believe I finally bought a Toyota, and it has a GM issue, that we fought back in 1987. Hah!

I have a 2016 Tacoma. Super White. I noticed paint peeling off behind the passenger door. Then discovered it starting all over the truck. Contacted the dealer.worthless . I took it to the Toyota body shop and the guy immediately knew about the issue. Took a bunch of pics and submitted the claim to Toyota . They denied it! I am super pissed . I’m still paying on the truck and they said it’s not currently on the approved list of vehicles so they won’t fix it. After calling corporate again and demanding an answer. They told me “ well maybe it will be added to the list later?” I am not going to let this go. Please if you have a white Tacoma with this issue call corporate and let’s all let them know we are not happy

Same here!! Been trying for over a year. We have a 2017 Tacoma Super White with the same issue!! Stumped as to what to do further!!! We keep telling them "we are not happy!" What else can we do?? Bought a car Dec 2019 and it was NOT a Toyota! Bought a Honda. It'll cost them a LOT more for not fixing these cars!! My daughters corolla is awful with top, hood and trunk peeled like crazy! But its red.

I have a 2007 Toyota Rave 4 Blizzard Pearl and the paint is chipping/peeling off.
I took it to the East Coast Toyota in Carlstadt NJ and they said & spoke with Toyota Corp Office and informed them that this is defective paint and to give them permission to paint the car and Toyota Corp Office just give me Case # and that this car is Not in there Recall List so they cannot paint the car. To keep check Toyota website for a Recall on my vehicle.
if any one out there have a Toyota Rave 4 with Blizzard Pearl please spread the word around so they could see this is a manufacture detect from Toyota and they should take full responsibility.
There is no reason why the customer should drive around with a car that the paint is peeling and falling off very disappointed.. I am going to keep fighting with the Corp Office.

This is the 2nd time I’m getting my RAV4 painted. This time the damage is worse. Both Sunrise Toyota as well as corporate Toyota have been horrible with customer relations. Sunrise took pictures December 26th, and I still haven’t heard anything. Corporate told me to submit my concerns and they would review, but a week later they sent me a letter rejecting me and I never even submitted any paperwork.

I feel horrible selling (or pawning) it off on someone else, but I don’t want to keep this car. Toyota refused to buy the car back.

I have a 2012 4Runner limited in blizzard pearl white. I have noticed some paint chip/rust around the front headlight bumper trunk areas. I did receive a letter in the mail and I plan on bringing it to my local Toyota dealership to repair. I will let you know how it went

The Corrola lover (not verified)    February 25, 2021 - 9:37PM

I had this issue on my 2010 corrola S in Super white. The worst of the damage was on the front hood. Took it into the Toyota dealership, they assessed it and deemed that they would paint the hood free of charge. I noted to them that there were also areas where the pain have failed on the roof as well as some of the door panels. However I was told that the chipping needed to be at least a quarter inch diameter peeled off in order to qualify per the standards set by Toyota corporate. The dealer in my town was very sympathetic and told me that they would check in another six months to see if the other areas that were not fixed would fall under the criteria at a later time. The deadline for these repairs is December 2022 so if you’re having any tripping issues I would recommend taking it into a Toyota dealer and having it assessed.

Hello, I have noticed over the last year that my 2012 Toyota SR5 4 Runner is having many small pieces (maybe 1-2cm in size, but many) of paint peeling off near the bottom off all my car windows. It’s not horrible yet but it is widespread and the paint is clearly peeling, not fading. When I took my car in today for an airbag recall and full detail the sales lady was kind enough to let me know about the recall. She said she would have the body shop get back to me and that they might possibly be able to repaint my entire car. I’m hoping it pans out but I’m a bit worried given all the hassle other customers have been having getting their paint repairs covered. I’ll keep everyone posted on my experience going forward! Good luck to everyone

Our pearl white, 2010 Toyota IQ is having the paint issues and Toyota UK are not interested in rectifying the problem. Obviously it is a substandard issue at time of manufacturing and I cannot justify why they cannot resolve the matter as good will gesture on their part. Quite frankly I am disappointed.

Andy (not verified)    March 7, 2021 - 10:55AM

I have discovered this problem today during washing my IQ 2010 as paint started coming off terribly. I got scared certainly as I bought he car just a few months ago and I started searching for this issue which appears to be general manufacturing problem of Toyota. I live in UK and there is no any official recall yet made but base on all official news this the problem for this specific paint is definieatly manufacturing issue which should be address to every country as is related to paint issue. I contacted Toyota today but without sucess of getting any information nevertheless I am prepared to push this through legal way if they refuse to take responsibility for this problem and repaint the car with problem free paint certainly.

My Toyota Camry 2010 start to peel of the paint corporation send me a letter to take to the dealer and the service writer told me is not cover the recall I don’t understand how a guy who never paint a car can make that decision I’m a Painter for more then 40 years and I can’t believe how Toyota corporation trust this guys I’m going to see a lawyer and I’m going to take action about this I have going to a lot of training in Torrance and I’m frustrated with this resolution!!!!!!thank you very much

I’ve been in touch with Toyota numerous times about peeling paint (same blizzard pearl color) on my 2010 Prius. Can’t get a clear answer on why recall doesn’t extend to Prius. Don’t Prius drivers take enough abuse?!!!
